2011results_9-16.jpg   WINCHESTER, VA (September 16,2011) – Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN picked up his 12th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win of the year on Friday Night at Winchester Speedway. He captured the $10,000 in the Verizon Wireless 50. Bloomquist took the lead on lap eight from Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA and then had to fight off several challenges from Jimmy Owens to take the win.

Bloomquist closed to within ten points of Owens, who faded to 16th at the finish with a left front flat tire. McDowell finished second followed by new track record holder; Ronnie DeHaven Jr.of Winchester, VA; 16th starting Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH.

McDowell led the first seven circuits and was being challenged by both Bloomquist and Owens, who were dueling it out for second. Bloomquist made the move for the lead on lap eight. Owens then moved into second as the two top in series points went at it.

Owens trailed Bloomquist for several circuits until the pair came across the scoring line dead-even. Owens then tried to take the lead from Bloomquist in turn two as he slid up in front of Bloomquist. Bloomquist then came back hard in turn four sliding in front of Owens to re-take the lead.

Owens nearly lost control of his car as he faded to third behind Bloomquist and McDowell, who picked up the second spot. Owens then developed a left front flat tire as he started to fade from contention.

Bloomquist went on to take his 12th series win of the season in his Miller Brothers Construction, Hawkeye Trucking, Base Racing Fuels, Ohlins, Lane Automotive, Roush-Yates, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford.

McDowell finished second in the Clint Bowyer Racing, Crawford Supply, Rocket Chevrolet. DeHaven was third in the DeHaven’s Trailer Sales, MasterSbilt with Pearson in the Bobby Labonte, Lucas Oil Products, Longhorn Dodge coming home fourth, followed by Hartman in the Ernie Davis, Ernie D’s Rocket Chassis.

In Lucas Oil Victory Lane, Bloomquist commented on the race with Owens for the lead. “I was going to race him like he raced me, when you do a slide job you need to make sure you have someone cleared, not just run them up the track, he nearly put me in the wall, and I went hard into turn four and slid front of him, I didn’t touch him, he came back and hit me in the rear and I guess that’s when he got the flat.”

Completing the top ten were Steve Francis of Ashland, KY; Jason Covert of York Haven, PA; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Eric Wells of Hazard, KY; and Jared Landers of Batesville, AR.

In preliminary action Ronnie DeHaven Jr. broke his year old track record with a lap of 14.201 seconds. Heat races went to Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Eric Wells, and Scott Bloomquist. The B-Mains went to Nick Dickson and Tyler Reddick.

PORTSMOUTH, OH (September 5, 2011) – Officials of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Portsmouth Raceway Park along with Hillbilly 100 promoter Carl Short have announced that the 2011 edition of the Hillbilly Hundred has been cancelled.   The 43rd Annual event was originally scheduled to be run on Sunday, September 4th but persistent afternoon rain showers forced the event to be postponed until Monday. Overnight rains along with a continued unfavorable forecast for more rain throughout the day on Monday has unfortunately forced officials to cancel the event for this year. A suitable make-up date could not be found to run the event.   “We hate this for the fans, drivers and everyone who came out to support the Hillbilly 100 this weekend,” said Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director, Ritchie Lewis. “Looking at our remaining schedule for 2011 and trying to work things out with Donna Rayburn and Carl Short we all agreed that there is not a weekend available that will work for all parties involved, so we have cancelled the race until 2012.”   For those that had bought advance tickets for the Hillbilly 100 you may send those in a self-addressed stamped envelope for a refund to: Portsmouth Raceway Park ATTN: Donna Rayburn at P.O. Box 1453, Portsmouth, OH 45662.   For drivers who had paid their entry fee for the event they may use that as a rollover to another upcoming Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. For those wishing to have their entry fee refunded you can email LOLMDS Administrative Assistant Ashley Schwallie at ashley@lucasdirt.com.    The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events will be held on Friday and Saturday September 16th and 17th. On Friday Night the series will race at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA and Saturday at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA.   For the latest breaking news on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series you can check us out at www.lucasdirt.com or you can call the series office at (951) 532-2503.Follow the series on the social media outlets as well at http://www.facebook.com/lucasdirt and http://twitter.com/#!/lucasdirt.

2011results_9-3.jpg PORTSMOUTH, OH (September 3, 2011) - Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN withstood all of Jimmy Owens’ challenges to win the Pepsi 50 River Days Rumble on Saturday Night at Portsmouth Raceway Park.   Owens started 22nd and finished just behind Bloomquist at the stripe. He was followed by 14th place starter, Jared Landers of Batesville, AR; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; and Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV. Scott James grabbed the lead at the start of the $10,000 to win race. He was in control for most of race, holding a good-sized lead through traffic. A heated race for second place was going on between last year’s winner, Dale McDowell and Bloomquist who eventually seized the spot. Bloomquist then caught James as the two ran side-by-side for a dozen laps with Bloomquist leadingfor the first time on lap 39. A lap later it was James at the stripe. Then a caution came out for a flat tire on Ray Cook’s car. On the restart, Bloomquist gained the point in turn two as James’ left rear tire went flat forcing the final caution of the race. This set up a nine-lap shootout between Bloomquist and Owens.  On the restart Bloomquist led Owens, but Owens closed right on Bloomquist’ rear with five laps to go. Bloomquist changed his line on the track to prevent Owens from stealing the win away from him. He went on for his 11th series win of 2011. The win for Bloomquist cut Owens’ points lead to 110. “The track was great all night, we started in the fourth row and it only took a couple of laps to get to the front,” said Bloomquist, who earned career win number 514 with the triumph. “You could run anywhere on this track. We had a real good race there with Scott [James], we ran side-by-side without touching, I don’t know if he thought I got into him or what, it was accidental if I even did. Then he had the flat and went out. Holding off Jimmy there at the end was tough because he was coming on strong from where he started.” Bloomquist in his Bloomquist Race Cars Ford is sponsored by Roush-Yates, Base Racing Fuels, Ohlins, Miller Brothers Construction and Sweet Manufacturing. Owens came into the event with a 130-point lead over Bloomquist and was excited with his finish. “I just started too far back, the car was great at the end, but Scott was just a little bit better,” said the driver of the Mike Reece-owned, Reece Monument Company, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. Completing the top ten were Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; Steve Francis of Ashland, KY; Frank Heckenast Jr. of Frankfort, IL; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV. In preliminary action, Rod Conley was the Red Buck Cigars Fast Qualifier among the 51 entrants on hand. The heat race winners were Doug Drown, Don O’Neal, Scott James, and Dale McDowell. The B-mains went to Chris Brown and Ben Adkins. Tomorrow night, September 4th, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action at Portsmouth Raceway Park for the 43rd Annual Hillbilly Hundred paying $25,000 to win. For more information log onto www.portsraceway.com. 2011results_8-27.jpg BARDSTOWN, KY (August 27, 2011) – For the second night in a row Don O’Neal ended up in victory lane.   The 47-year-old driver started on the pole and led all 50 laps in winning the 11th Annual Cornett Racing Engines Bluegrass Classic at Bluegrass Speedway. O’Neal was driving the MasterSbilt House car, and earned $10,000 for the victory which came on the heels of his win Friday Night at Lawrenceburg. O’Neal’s 17th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series came over Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; Steve Francis of Ashland, KY; and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA. O’Neal won the race at Bluegrass a year ago made a clean sweep of the night’s activities as he set fast time, won his heat, then got the lead at the start of the race and held on the rest of the way. “We had a good qualifying effort, ran the heat race strong and got out front before it became one-laned, the lapped cars gave us plenty of room, but they started to dice it up, and I didn’t want to make a mistake.” “If you dared to step up out of groove it was going to cost you. We’ve not been good the last two weeks, but the last three nights we have been real good, Tader, Cody, Randy, Steve and everybody else back at the shop, thanks to Jerry Jones and his wife for their support.” O’Neal sits third in the series points standings. O’Neal’s car is sponsored by Magnaflow Exhaust, Jones Core, Second Chance Livestock Dispatch, VP Fuels, Independence Lumber, Janowski Insurance, Superior Cleaning, Hoosier Tires and his car is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine. McDowell finished second at Volunteer Speedway on Thursday Night was pleased with his second place run at Bardstown. “With the year we’ve had, to have two second place finishes, just shows you we never quit.  Lawrenceburg didn’t go so good, but tonight the car was good, just not good enough to get the win, once Don got in front it was pretty much all she wrote,” said the driver of the Crawford Supply, Clint Bowyer Racing, Rocket Chevrolet. Bloomquist finished third to close to within 130 points of Jimmy Owens, who finished sixth for the second night in a row. Francis in the Valvoline, Roush-Yates, MasterSbilt Ford came home fourth followed by Birkhofer in the J&J Steel, Pro Power, MB Customs entry. Completing the top ten were Owens, Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Tyler Reddick of Corning, CA; Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY; and Bub McCool of Vicksburg, MS.
