2013results_4-6.jpg   KILGORE, TX (April 6, 2013) – Two-time and reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion Jimmy Owens survived to win the 50-lap High Banks Havoc on Saturday Night at LoneStar Speedway. Owens earned $10,000 for his second LOLMDS win of the season and the 38th of his career.   Owens took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then held off Bloomquist for the win. Steve Francis finished third followed by Don O’Neal and Jared Landers.   “It is really a weight off of our shoulders to win this race after we had a rough time in Florida. It really was a pretty good race having several different leaders, I saw Scott running a line to avoid the holes and I followed him for a longtime, and finally we were able to pass him,” said Owens.   “You had to have a super good car tonight to withstand the tough track conditions. My crew worked really hard to prepare the car for these conditions tonight and it paid off. We’ve been needing a good points night and we got it tonight. I have to thank my car owner Mike Reece, Reece Monument Company, Gantte Appraisals, Sunoco Race Fuels and everybody else with this race team,”   O’Neal would take the lead at the start of the race and hold the point until he slowed with a flat tire on the 19th lap. After O’Neal pitted for a fresh tire, he rejoined the race on the tail. Bloomquist then inherited the lead, and led until lap 33 when Owens powered by Bloomquist for lead.   Bloomquist like Owens needed a good points night as well and got what he wanted. “We started off slow last year and came back to finish third in the points. It was treacherous tonight, but we have a well-built car and it held up in these rough conditions. We were airborne several times out there and then we found a line that was somewhat smoother to run but I couldn’t hold Jimmy off. Congratulations to Jimmy on his win in one of our cars and Dennis (Erb) had a good finish as well.”   Francis, who like his counterparts came into the race looking to move up in the points, was pleased with his third place finish. “The crew worked hard on the car and we were fast all night. I was able to keep it up front most of the race and thought we might get past Scott (Bloomquist), but just couldn’t get by him. It was just a night of survival but we will take a third place finish and go from there, said Steve Francis, driver of the Clint Bowyer Racing Team entry.   Completing the top ten were Dennis Erb Jr.; Chris Wall, John Blankenship, B.J. Robinson and Bobby Pierce.   In preliminary action, Bobby Pierce set the overall Time (Group B) amongst the 39 entrants, with a lap of 14.199 seconds. Don O’Neal set the fastest time in Group A with a time of 14.257 seconds. Don O’Neal, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., and Jimmy Owens won their respective Heat Races. Tyler Erb and Chris Wall won their respective B-Mains.    The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action in two weeks with a trek through the Appalachian Mountains for three events. The series will be at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA on Friday, April 19th. On Saturday, April 20th, the series will venture to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. Rounding out the trip in the “Mountaineer State”, the series will make its return to West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV on Sunday, April 21st. All three events will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-Lap main events. 2013results_3-23.jpg   BROWNSTOWN, IN (March 23, 2013) – Dennis Erb, Jr. came from the eighth starting spot to win the 16th Annual Indiana Icebreaker sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Saturday Night at Brownstown Speedway. Erb, took the lead on lap six from Josh McGuire and went unchallenged the rest of the way for the $10,000 victory.   Erb’s fifth career LOLMDS win tonight was also his first series win outside of East Bay Raceway Park in Florida. Don O’Neal finished second, followed by Greg Johnson, Jared Landers, and Bobby Pierce.   “The car was amazing all night; we didn’t change much at all! This was probably the best car I have had here at Brownstown. In the feature, the track was racy from top to bottom. We started on the outside of the fourth row and the top was great, so that’s where I stayed and it didn’t take us long to get to the front,” said Erb, who earned his fourth career win at the South-Central Indiana track.   “The car was good all week at East Bay last month, if not for a few blown tires, we would have won the points, but we had a good night tonight and we want to stay with the series all year, if we can find some more funding then that’s what we will do,” said the 40-year-old Erb.   Once Erb was in front there was no catching him. The only caution of the race came out with 20 laps complete, but on the restart, Erb pulled away from his nearest competitors. “I have to thank Bloomquist Race Cars, Kuntz and Company, J&L Scrap Metals and McBride Leasing, and of course my Crew Chief, Heather Lyne.”   Completing the top ten were Darrell Lanigan; Mike Marlar; John Blankenship; Jimmy Owens; and Josh Richards.   In preliminary action, Bobby Pierce set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 37 entrants, with a lap of 14.798 seconds. Jared Landers set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 15.046 seconds. Bobby Pierce, Steve Francis, Josh McGuire, and Brandon Sheppard won their respective Heat Races. Jimmy Owens and Mike Marlar won their respective B-Mains.    The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action on Friday, April 6th, with the Southern 50 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. The following night, Saturday, April 7th, the series makes its way to Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, TX for the annual High Banks Havoc. Both events will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RedBuck Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-Lap main events. 2013results_2-16night.jpg TAMPA, FL (February 16, 2013) – Earl Pearson Jr. rallied from a flat tire to win the $10,000 DART Winternationals finale for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at East Bay Raceway Park. Pearson pitted on lap 37 after suffering a right rear flat and restarted from the tail. He charged through the field, taking the lead from Don O’Neal on lap 52 and led the remainder of the race.   Driving for NASCAR’s Bobby Labonte, Pearson took the Lucas Oil Products and MAVTV sponsored Longhorn Chassis Chevrolet to Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time since July of 2010 at Tri-City (IL) Speedway. “It’s been a longtime, no doubt,” said the 4-time series champion who was all smiles from ear-to-ear. “This deal with Kevin Rumley came together just a few months ago and we have come out of the box running much better! I have to thank Steve Shaver, he was my crew chief this week, and everybody at Lucas Oil and MAVTV for their support! It feels great to be back in victory lane!”   Pearson’s win was the third of his career at East Bay and his 25th on the LOLMDS tour. Scott Bloomquist wound up second followed by O’Neal, Jared Landers, and Steve Francis.   Bloomquist, who was one of the few cars not having to pit, got by O’Neal in the closing laps to take a podium finish in second. “We ran the hardest tires we could; the track was actually pretty good! It was black from top to bottom, but when you start getting some of that sand grit mixed in after a while, that’s why the tires started going away.”   O’Neal, with his third place finish, clinched the DART Winternationals Championship, worth $5,000. “We are really proud to win the DART (Winternationals) Championship! As far as the race was concerned, we tried to conserve the tires the best we could, and I was just hanging on there at the end and I knew those guys that pitted were going to be hard to handle.” In preliminary action, Vic Coffey set the overall Time (Group B) amongst the 36 entrants, with a lap of 14.417 seconds. Don O’Neal set the fastest time in Group A with a time of 14.547 seconds. Don O’Neal, Austin Hubbard, Dennis Erb Jr., and won their respective Heat Races. Jared Landers and Scott Bloomquist won their respective B-Mains. Devin Moran was the PRC Strawberry Dash Winner.   After the main event, Doug Blashe won the $1,000-to-win Non-Qualifiers Race. Brad Malcuit, Nick Davis, James O’Hara and Bob Geiger rounded out the Top-5. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action on Saturday, March 24th, with the Brian Bowman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN. The event will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RedBuck Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 50-Lap main event. 2013results_2-16day.jpg   TAMPA, FL (February 16, 2013) – Jimmy Owens passed race leader, Don O’Neal on lap 16 and went on the take the $7,000 main event at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday afternoon. The race was originally scheduled for Thursday Night, but was rained out. The win marks the second victory at EBRP for the 2-time and reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion.   O’Neal and Dennis Erb Jr. battled it out for the first 15 laps, with Erb officially leading lap 9. Erb had a flat on lap 15, bringing out the first caution of the race. Owens, who started fifth passed O’Neal on the outside after the restart. Owens then led the rest of the race and picked up his second career win at East Bay and the 37th series win of his career. O’Neal came home in second, followed by Eric Jacobsen, John Blankenship, and Vic Coffey.   “For a day race, the track was really great! The crew went out and worked it after the rain delay and there were enough crumbs out there to give everybody traction for the first part of the race,” said the driver of the Mike Reece-owned, Reece Monument Company, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. “From where we started, I figured that I needed to get to the front before the track took rubber. I saw Erb running up top and I don’t know what happened to him. John (Blankenship) and I had a really good race for second. I was finally able to clear him and was able to catch O’Neal and pass him for the lead.”   O’Neal was looking for his second straight win week, but came up just a car-length short. He commented: “I left the door open in turn one and I knew I was in trouble. Our car has really been great this week, I knew once Owens was in front it was going to be hard to pass him back. We will take second and work towards tonight’s race!”   Jacobsen recorded his second podium finish of the week with a solid third place. “We have got this place figured out, but we just can’t seem to close the deal and get a win here. I haven’t run as much over the few years as these [Lucas Oil] guys. They race so much more than me, but the car feels good and maybe tonight we can end the week on a good note.” In preliminary action, Jimmy Owens set the overall RedBuck Fast Time (Group A) amongst the 34 entrants, with a lap of 15.346 seconds. Dennis Erb Jr. set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 15.672 seconds. Don O’Neal, John Blankenship, Dennis Erb Jr., and Eric Jacobsen won their respective Heat Races. 2013results_2-15.jpg   TAMPA, FL (February 15, 2013) – Don O’Neal captured his 15th career win at East Bay Raceway Park tonight after taking the lead on lap 39. Doug Drown and O’Neal had a hard fought battle, exchanging the lead several times during the main event. O’Neal captured $10,000 for winning the first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points event of the season.   Drown led the majority of the 50-lap main event and held the top spot until O’Neal chased him down in lapped traffic. Drown fought back hard, closing to within a car length of O’Neal near the end of the race, but came up short in his bid for a first ever LOLMDS win. Pierce; the 16-year-old, second generation driver; held his own, finishing third. He was followed by the Optima Batteries Hard Charger, Earl Pearson Jr., who drove his way from the 18th starting spot to claim fourth, just ahead of Dennis Erb Jr.   “That was a thrilling race, the fans could not have asked for a better feature! We changed so many things on this car, and it was perfect in the end,” said the winner, O’Neal. “I got up to second and we (Drown) raced hard for the lead, I would get by him, then he would come back around me”. The 48-year-old O’Neal piloted the Optima Batteries and Jay Dickens-powered MasterSbilt House Car.   Drown is racing at East Bay for the first-time in his career this week and was excited with his runner-up finish. “Hats off to Don, he drove a great race! I thought we were going to get it for a moment. I looked over at the scoreboard and saw the 71 behind me, and I thought maybe I could him hold him off, but he is obviously one of the best drivers in the country. Just to run with these guys is quite an honor,” exclaimed the elated driver.   Pierce was looking for a clean sweep on the night and was equally excited with his finish. After the race, the young driver commented: “The top groove came back to us late in the race, and I thought maybe we could get Doug and Donnie. We learned a lot tonight and hopefully we will come back tomorrow and do even better!” In preliminary action, Bobby Pierce (Group A) set the overall Fast Time amongst the 37 entrants, with a lap of 14.404 seconds. Jimmy Owens set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 14.518 seconds. Bobby Pierce, Dennis Erb Jr., Doug Drown, and Don O’Neal won their respective Heat Races. Vic Coffey and Earl Pearson Jr. won their respective B-Mains. LOLMDS Series Provisionals were Jared Landers and Jerry Lierly (Based on Fast Time, as there was only one series provisional). Jason McBride was the DirtOnDirt.com Fast Time Provisional. Stormy Scott was the PRC Strawberry Dash Winner. After the main event, Doug Blashe won the $1,000-to-win Non-Qualifiers Race. Todd Frank finished second, followed by Brad Malcuit, James O’Hara, and Nick Davis, who rounded out the Top-5.   The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt series will be back tomorrow, Saturday, February 16th with a double-header of high-flying action from the 37th Annual DART Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. Hot Laps for Thursday’s make-up event will take place at noon (12pm) and Hot Laps for tomorrow evening’s event is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm. Both events will feature RedBuck Time Trials, Heats, B-Mains, PRC Strawberry Dash and Full Features ($7,000-to-win, 35 Laps for the day event; $10,000-to-win, 60 Laps for the evening event).
