2012results_3-24.jpg   BROWNSTOWN, IN (March 24, 2012) – Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN won his fourth career Indiana Icebreaker Presented by Bowman Auto Group on Saturday Night at the Brownstown Speedway. O’Neal started sixth in the 50-lap main event and went on to capture the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event in front of a huge crowd.

O’Neal and defending Series Champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN traded the lead four times, until O’Neal pulled ahead for good on lap 36. Owens held a good lead over O’Neal until lap 26 when O’Neal reeled Owens in as they went through lap traffic.

“I have to thank all the fans who came out tonight. Even though we had a lot of storms and rain last night, the track was excellent. We hurt the motor in time trials and had to pull out the back-up car and it performed flawlessly,” said the 47-year-old who captured his 22nd career LOLMDS victory. It was O’Neal’s 52nd career win at Brownstown Speedway.

“We started on the tail of the heat and got up to second. To start where we did in the feature, we were lucky. I knew we had a good shot at winning, Jimmy (Owens) is always tough no matter what track we are at, but I don’t know what happened to him once we got by. We started to catch up to him and then went back and forth for the lead. I sure hope the fans enjoyed that race,” said the veteran driver, who began his late model career at Brownstown in 1991.

“I have to thank all of our great sponsors, Optima Batteries, Independence Lumber, Seubert Calf Ranches, Super Cleaning, Jones Core, and Budda Bert Transmissions. A Jay Dickens Racing Engine powers the MasterSbilt house-car that O’Neal drives.

Owens in the Reece Monument Company, Cornett Racing Engines, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford finished second. With his second place showing, Owens is now tied with Dennis Erb Jr. for the series points lead. Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN made a late-race charge in the Jack Rainey, Bedford Transport, C.J. Rayburn Race Cars Chevrolet and passed Steve Francis of Ashland, KY on the final lap to finish third. Francis in the Valvoline, Clements Racing Engines, Barry Wright Chevrolet came home fourth, just ahead of first-time Brownstown Speedway visitor, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA in the Bowyer Motorsports, Georgia Boot, Barry Wright Toyota. Completing the top ten were: Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL; Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; Chris Simpson of Oxford, IA; and Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Both Bloomquist and Pearson rallied late in the race to score top ten finishes after taking series provisionals and starting 23rd and 24th. In preliminary action Steve Francis was the Red Buck Cigars Fast Qualifier with a lap of 13.954 seconds.  Heat race winners were Jimmy Owens, Jonathan Davenport, Francis, and Chris Simpson. Josh Richards and Terry Casey won the B-mains. Coming up next weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be in action on Friday Night, March 30th at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS and Saturday Night, March 31st at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, TX. Both events will pay $10,000 to win.For the latest breaking news on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, log onto www.lucasdirt.com or call the series’ office at (951) 532-2503.Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Race Summary Saturday Night, March 24, 2012 Indiana Icebreaker Brownstown Speedway – Brownstown, IN Red Buck Cigars Fast Time:Austin Hubbard / 14.025 seconds (Group A) Steve Francis / 13.954 seconds (Group B and Overall) Wiles Driveshafts First Heat (10 Laps- Top 4 Advance): Jimmy Owens, Austin Hubbard, Bobby Pierce, Tyler Reddick, Josh Richards, Duane Chamberlain, Tim Prince, Justin Rattliff, Shane Cottle, David Ross, Earl Pearson, Jr. U. REVISION 0001: UPDATE TO CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS

Featured12_2-18.jpg   TAMPA, FL (February 18, 2012) – Steve Francis of Ashland, KY outdueled defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN in an exciting finish at East Bay Raceway Park. Francis picked up $10,000 for his win in the finale of the 36th Annual DART Winternationals. He scored his second win of the week, in doing so. The duo was followed by Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; and Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL.   Erb earned the week-long DART Winternationals Championship. He won $5,000 for his efforts.

He had to withstand Owens’ repeated efforts over the last four laps after a caution came out for Jason Riggs. On the restart Owens tried the inside of Francis several times, but Francis repelled him at each turn. Francis also won the Thursday night installment of the Winternationals. O’Neal was able to get by Bloomquist on the 60th and final lap to claim third after pitting for fresh tires on lap 27.

“I want to apologize to Donnie (Moran) for getting into him. I knew we had a good car in open air, I was trying not to make a mistake and let Scott or Jimmy get by me. We were just looking for a caution to clear the track in front of us. I can’t say enough about Barry and Lance Wright. This team got together so late in the game, we have had to work our tails off to get ready. I was racing in Australia just a few weeks ago,” said Francis, who captured his tenth career win at East Bay.   “The Barry Wright Race Cars and the Clements Engines have been great this week. We could’ve won a couple more of these without the flat tires, but we’ll never know. Luckily they all held air tonight,” said the 44-year-old driver embarking on his second year with the LOLMDS. “I want to thank VP Race Fuels, Valvoline, Nichols Plumbing, AES Racing, Jri Shocks, and Mathis Farms.”   Completing the top ten were Duke Whiseant of Texarkana, AR; Scott Creel of Franklinton, LA; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE; and Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA.   In preliminary action John Blankenship took the Red Buck Cigars Fast Time award amongst the 41 entrants. Heat races were won by Donnie Moran, Randy Korte, Terry Casey, and Steve Francis. Duke Whiseant and Austin Hubbard won the B-Mains. Rookie Late Model driver, Shelby Miles captured the PRC Strawberry Dash.   The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event will be on Saturday Night, March 24th at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN. The “Indiana Icebreaker” will pay $10,000 to win. For more information log on to www.brownstownspeedway.com.   For the latest breaking news on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, log onto www.lucasdirt.com.   Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Race Summary Saturday Night, February 18, 2012 36th Annual DART Winternationals East Bay Raceway Park – Tampa, FL   Red Buck Cigars Fast Time:  Donnie Moran / 14.440 seconds (Group A) John Blankenship / 14.398 seconds (Group B and Overall)   Wiles Driveshafts First Heat (8 Laps- Top 4 Advance): Donnie Moran, Scott Bloomquist, Don O'Neal, Jonathan Davenport, Duke Whiseant, Tyler Reddick, Mark Andersen, Danny Mitchell, Justin Rattliff, Todd Frank, Roger Hammond   U. 2012results_2-17.jpg TAMPA, FL (February 17, 2012) – Battling back from an early caution, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL had the fans on their feet as he captured Friday night’s exciting 50-lap DART Winternationals event. Erb took the lead on lap 48 and roared to the finish in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned race.   Erb originally started 14th on the grid, but tangled with Austin Hubbard on lap three. This brought out the first caution of the race. Erb pitted, changed a tire, and restarted in 23rd position. He then charged through the field, and passed Randy Korte of Highland, IL on lap 47. Erb got around both Korte and Tyler Reddick at the same time. He powered away and took his Bloomquist Race Cars #28 to victory lane for the second time in his career at East Bay.   “I still can’t believe it,” said Erb in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the second time ever. He was shell-shocked as he spoke with series announcer, James Essex.   “I saw what (Steve) Francis did the night before and decided my car would work up top as well. I drove around them on the high side, and was able to carry my momentum passed them. I want to thank McBride Mack, PRC, Allstar Performance, Petersen Aluminum, Ohlins, and VP Fuels for their support.”   “The deal earlier in the race with Hubbard, it was just a racing thing. I decided to pit and bolt on a new tire, knowing that I was taking a gamble, and it paid off. I knew my car was working pretty well this week and the Vic Hill Racing Engine performed flawlessly. Heather (Lyne) has been working hard and I am really pleased how things turned out tonight.”   Korte was in the hunt for his first ever series and East Bay win. He looked like he was headed for victory lane until a caution came out with 47 laps complete. Korte had worked his way up from starting 12th in the Riggs Motorsports, Clearwave Communications, Rocket Chevrolet. He took the lead from Steve Francis with less than five laps to go. Korte came home in second, his best career finish in LOLMDS competition.   Reddick wound up third in the Broken Bow Records, Gaerte Racing Engines, Bloomquist Race Cars mount. He was followed by Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA. Davenport had led the first 33 laps until Francis passed him. He grabbed fourth in the Bowyer Motorsports, Roush-Yates Racing Engines, Barry Wright Toyota. Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH rounded out the top five in his Custom Cutters, Malcuit Racing Engines, and MasterSbilt Chevrolet.   Completing the top ten were Austin Hubbard of Seaford, DE; Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC; Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN; Eric Wells of Hazard, KY; and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.   In preliminary action Steve Francis was the Red Buck Cigar’s Fast Qualifier amongst the 42 entrants. Heat race winners were Terry Casey, Jonathan Davenport, Don O’Neal, and Shelby Miles. Eric Wells and Eric Jacobsen captured the B-mains.   The final night of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series 36th Annual DART Winternationals is set for Saturday night, February 18th. There will be a $10,000 payday on the line for the winner of the 60-lap feature. Hot laps will begin at 6 PM, followed by Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, and Heat Race action at 7 PM. For more information, log on to www.eastbayracewaypark.com.

2012results_2-16.jpg   TAMPA, FL (February 16, 2012) – Steve Francis passed Austin Hubbard coming off of turn four on the final lap of tonight’s 35-lap DART Winternationals feature. Francis took home $7,000 for his win. In a thrilling finish, Hubbard finished second, followed by Dennis Erb Jr., Don O’Neal, and Jared Landers. With the win, Francis notched his ninth career victory at East Bay Raceway Park and his sixth career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series triumph.

The main events have been packed with excitement all week. Tonight fans saw another “barn-burner” of a main event. Hubbard was poised to win his first-ever win at East Bay and his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory when he took the lead on lap 13 from Erb.

The young driver led the field for most of the race until a caution came out on lap 33. This set up a two-lap showdown between Hubbard and Francis. Hubbard dashed out in front of Francis on the restart and led until the final turn. Francis took to the outside groove of the track and powered out of turn four. The crowd jumped to their feet and roared with excitement as the pair came across the finish line with Francis barely ahead of Hubbard.

“I have to thank my Crew Chief Lance Wright, under that last caution he signaled for me to go to the top of the track. It looked like there was enough moisture in the track tonight, even at the end, so I knew Lance was right. I was able to get into three and four really well. He (Hubbard) left a small opening on the outside, I took it and was just fortunate enough to get by him,” said the 44-year old.

“I want to thank Barry Wright and everybody at the race shop, Clements Race Engines, Valvoline, Nichols Plumbing, JRi Shocks, Mathis Farms, and AES Racing for all of their support. The deal for me to drive for Barry didn’t come together until mid-December, and I am really glad that it did.”

Francis will be following the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series full-time again this year. His 2012 season is off to an excellent start with this win. “It’s good to finally be back in victory lane here at East Bay, it’s been a few years. One thing’s for certain, we aren’t going winless this year,” said a smiling Francis. “The track has been in excellent shape all week thanks to Al, Todd, and the entire crew here at East Bay.  They have finished in a timely fashion and had some great racing.”

Completing the top ten were Wednesday Night’s winner Ray Cook, Terry Casey, Donnie Moran, John Blankenship, and Shannon Babb.

In preliminary action Shannon Babb was the Red Buck Cigar’s Fast Qualifier amongst the 44 entrants. Heat races were won by Donnie Moran, Steve Francis, Dennis Erb Jr., and Austin Hubbard. Bobby Pierce and Eric Jacobsen recorded B-main wins. Earl Pearson Jr. captured the PRC Strawberry Dash.

Up next at the DART Winternationals will be a $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event on Friday night, February 17th at the famed “Clay by the Bay”. Hot laps will begin at 6:00PM followed by Red Buck Cigar Time Trials. Heat race action is slated to get underway at 7 PM, followed by B-Mains, and the 50-lap main event.   For more information, check out www.eastbayracewaypark.com.

2012results_2-15.jpg   TAMPA, FL (February 15, 2012) - Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC returned to victory lane at East Bay Raceway Park on Wednesday Night after an action packed 35-lap feature. The win was his first in 12 years at the track. Cook took the lead for good on lap 31 from Steve Francis of Ashland, KY to win night number three of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned DART Winternationals.

Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA passed Francis on the final lap to finish second. Francis ran the last several laps of the race with a flat right front tire. He barely edged out Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN for third. Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, IL rounded out the top five.

In a spirited race for the top spot, three drivers took turns at leading the event. Davenport led the first four laps until Francis took over the lead. Francis then held the “point” until Cook got by on lap 15. Cook rallied from his fourth place starting spot to hold the lead until Francis forged back ahead on lap 23. Cook kept pace with Francis, constantly applying pressure for the lead. Cook finally managed to get by Francis, after the right front tire on Francis’ car began to go flat.

"It just goes to show you that anything is possible with the Lord," said the elated Cook in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. "These MasterSbilt Race Cars have run well the first three nights down here with O'Neal winning twice and now us. This whole team has been working extremely hard to get us here tonight. I would to thank Gary Winger with Integra Shocks, American Racer Tires, and everyone that supports this team," said Cook. This was his tenth career win in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition.

Reminiscing on his first and only win at East Bay that came 12 years ago, Cook said, "We started 21st and it was a 100-lapper. Even though we started fourth tonight, it sure wasn’t any easier, given the quality of the competition down here this time. We've started off great this season and we hope to continue the momentum for the rest of the year," said the 40-year-old driver.

A+ Moving and Storage, VP Racing Fuels, Keyser Mfg., GW Performance, PRC, Hicks & Ingle Company, and Superior Cleaning sponsor Cook’s D&R Motorsports number 53.

Don O'Neal was trying to win three in a row this week. He jumped the cushion in turn two on the first lap and slipped back to fifth. Cook started behind O’Neal and took advantage of O'Neal's slip. "Any time you get a chance to get by O'Neal, you take it. He's been running so well this week."

Davenport secured a second place finish for the Clint Bowyer Motorsports, Roush-Yates Racing Engines, Barry Wright Toyota. Francis hung on to finish third in the Valvoline, Clements Racing Engines, Barry Wright Chevrolet. Bloomquist made a last lap surge to get around the fading Francis, but came up just short. He finished fourth in the Hawkeye Trucking, Roush-Yates Racing Engines, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. Erb, who started 14th, finished fifth in his McBride Mack, Vic Hill Racing Engines, Bloomquist Race Cars entry.

Completing the top ten were Eric Jacobsen of Seacliffe Beach, CA; John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; Terry Casey of New London, WI; Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH; and Randy Korte of Highland, IL.

In preliminary action Don O'Neal was the Red Buck Cigar’s Fast Qualifier amongst the 46 entrants. Heat race winners were Jonathan Davenport, Don O'Neal, Steve Francis, and Ray Cook. Duke Whiseant and Chris Brown took the B-mains. Josh McGuire won the PRC Strawberry Dash.

There will be another $7,000 to win show for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series DART Winternationals at East Bay on Thursday night, February 16th.

Don O’Neal leads Scott Bloomquist in the weeklong DART Winternationals points chase after the first three events.
