2013results_5-11.jpg   LA SALLE, IL (May 11, 2013) – Brady Smith edged out fellow Wisconsin driver, Jimmy Mars by just a few inches at LaSalle Speedway on Saturday Night in winning the Jeff’s Enginemasters Spring Shootout. It was Smith’s first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since 2008. Trailing Smith and Mars to the finish line in the $10,000 to win race was John Blankenship, Chris Simpson, and Don O’Neal.   “I have to thank Jimmy (Mars) for racing me clean that was quite a race, we are happy to be here in Lucas Oil victory lane. We haven’t been racing much this year, I had knee surgery back in March, and it took a while to recover from that,” said Smith. With the win Smith became the seventh different winner in eleven LOLMDS events in 2013.   Mars was seeking his first LOLMDS victory since the ’09 North/South 100 at Florence (KY) Speedway, but fell just short of the win. “Congratulations to Brady, I hope the fans enjoyed that race, to run 50-laps here without a yellow says something about the track and the drivers in this race. We got boxed in there behind another car and Brady was able to get around me. I thought that on the final lap, I was going to get him. I saw him slide up the track and he left and opening, but we came up just short.”   Blankenship was looking for his first win of the season, and watched the action in front of him in the closing laps. “I was hoping maybe they would get together and we could sneak by for the win, we gained some points tonight, those two had a great race for the lead, I had a good battle with (Chris) Simpson for the entire race it seemed like.”   Completing the top ten were Jimmy Owens, Eddie Carrier Jr., Brian Birkhofer, Steve Francis, and Randy Korte. In preliminary action, Eddie Carrier Jr. set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 38 entrants, with a lap of 13.679 seconds. Randy Korte set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 13.993 seconds. Brady Smith, John Blankenship, Don O’Neal, and Chris Simpson won their respective heat races. Kent Robinson and Brandon Sheppard won their respective B-Mains.    The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its next stop at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR for the 2nd Annual “Bad Boy 98” next week, from Thursday, May 16th with an Open Practice night and continue on Friday, May 17th, with RED BUCK Time Trials and Heat Races. Capping off the weekend on Saturday, May 18th, there will be B-Mains, and the 98-Lap, $20,000-to-win “Bad Boy 98” main event. 2013results_4-21.jpg   MINERAL WELLS, WV (April 21, 2013) – Eddie Carrier Jr. finally claims his first ever win at West Virginia Motor Speedway, by winning tonight’s event. Carrier took the lead from Brian Birkhofer on lap 33 and held off Josh Richards for his fourth career LOLMDS win. Richards, who brought out the first caution of the race with one lap scored, charged through the field to finish second. Don O’Neal came home third followed by Birkhofer and 13th starting, Jimmy Owens.

“It feels pretty good to finally win here, so close to Rocket Chassis. West Virginia has been my home-state since I moved from Kentucky back in ’02,” said Carrier in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. “To win on this stage, with the caliber of drivers here, they are the best of the best no doubt about it, that’s why this is so special, the car was excellent today from the time we unloaded it out of the trailer.”

Birkhofer took the lead at the start of the 50-lap main event and was in control for most of the first-half of the race until Carrier started to apply pressure. Carrier’s car was better in the long runs as he eventually tracked down Birkhofer. On lap 33, Carrier was able to make the pass on Birkhofer coming off of turn number four.

“I have to thank Carl Grover, he gave me an opportunity to drive his car several years ago, and we have had a great relationship through the years. I want to run this Lucas Oil Series to become a better driver,” said the 42-year-old pilot of the Engines Inc, Integra, VP Fuels, and Grover Racing Engines Ford-powered, Rocket Chassis.

Richards commented in Lucas Oil Victory Lane: “Hats off to Eddie, he drove a great race. We were catching him at the end, but just ran out of laps. I am glad to see a Rocket win here in West Virginia. The track was really good, but on the first lap I just slid there into the guardrail. I thought our night was over, but the crew checked the car out and we came back with a strong finish.”

O’Neal posted a solid third place finish to put himself in a tie with Jimmy Owens for the points lead. “Tonight went way better for us than last night did,” joked O’Neal in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. “The track was really smooth, I was surprised after they reworked it. It was still fast, but our car had the right set-up for a strong run. Congratulations to Eddie on his win!”

Completing the top ten were John Blankenship, Scott Bloomquist, Jared Landers, Jared Hawkins, and Jonathan Davenport. In preliminary action, John Blankenship set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 32 entrants, with a lap of 17.021 seconds. Vic Coffey set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 17.361 seconds. John Blankenship, Steve Shaver, Brian Birkhofer, and Eddie Carrier Jr. won their respective heat races. Scott Bloomquist and Bobby Pierce won their respective B-Mains.

After taking the next weekend off, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will kick-off a busy month of May with events at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL on Friday, May 3rd and Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY on Saturday, May 4th. Both events will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-Lap main events. 2013results_4-20.jpg   HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 20, 2013) – Jimmy Owens won his second consecutive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway. Owens took the lead on lap five passing Steve Francis and paced the field the rest of the way to become the eighth different winner in eight LOLMDS appearances at Hagerstown Speedway. Earl Pearson Jr. advanced from his seventh starting position to finish second followed by Vic Coffey, Steve Francis and 18th starting, Gregg Satterlee.   Owens commented on his winning car in victory lane. “It’s a new car that we have only run four or five races with it this year. We were a little worried early on this year but we got the kinks worked out of it and it seems to be really fast. We have never really run that well here so to come here tonight and get this win is great for our whole team. The track was racy and we had a good battle with Francis early on before we were able to pull away towards the end”, said Owens, whose victory was his first at the historic half-mile track   Steve Francis would lead the first four circuits, until Owens, who started third passed Francis for the lead on lap five and built a straight away lead at times. Earl Pearson Jr. moved up to second during the early stages of the feature but could not find enough to over-take Owens. Pearson kept within striking distance of Owens as a couple of lapped cars kept Owens from lengthening his lead during the late stages of the event. Pearson closed to a few car lengths of Owens, but his momentum was slowed by a lapped car that prevented him from making a late-race run at Owens.   Pearson, who started seventh, was extremely happy with his second place finish. “Jimmy was dominant here tonight and we really didn’t have anything for him. We were running second to Jimmy in Texas and felt like we had a car to win there until we broke. To come here and get second and show that we have a good car feels good and that will help us in the points,” said the 4-time series champ. “This car was redesigned by Kevin Rumley and really is proving to be something we can build on. I love coming to this place and racing on high speed tracks,” said the driver of the #44 Bobby Labonte Racing, Lucas Oil Products sponsored Longhorn Chassis.   Vic Coffey, who survived a torrid battle for third among five drivers, came home in third place. “We had a real good car tonight. We took a little different line there than most of those guys coming off of turn four that really helped me to get into the top three. That was really a heck of race between all of us, just too bad it wasn’t for the lead. We will take third place and head to West Virginia tomorrow” commented Coffey in his post-race interview.   Finishing sixth through tenth in the final standings were Dan Stone, Steve Shaver, Billy Moyer Jr., John Blankenship, and Eddie Carrier Jr. With his win Saturday night Jimmy Owens took over the top spot in the series championship points standings. Owens leads Don O’Neal by fifteen points.   In preliminary action, Marvin Winters set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 34 entrants, with a lap of 19.402 seconds. Steve Francis set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 19.551 seconds. Jamie Lathroum, Jimmy Owens, Steve Francis, and Vic Coffey won their respective heat races. DJ Myers and Gregg Satterlee won their respective B-Mains.    Tomorrow Night, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns to the “Mountaineer State”, making its return to West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV on Sunday, April 21st. The event will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 50-Lap main event. 2013results_4-6.jpg   KILGORE, TX (April 6, 2013) – Two-time and reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion Jimmy Owens survived to win the 50-lap High Banks Havoc on Saturday Night at LoneStar Speedway. Owens earned $10,000 for his second LOLMDS win of the season and the 38th of his career.   Owens took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 33 and then held off Bloomquist for the win. Steve Francis finished third followed by Don O’Neal and Jared Landers.   “It is really a weight off of our shoulders to win this race after we had a rough time in Florida. It really was a pretty good race having several different leaders, I saw Scott running a line to avoid the holes and I followed him for a longtime, and finally we were able to pass him,” said Owens.   “You had to have a super good car tonight to withstand the tough track conditions. My crew worked really hard to prepare the car for these conditions tonight and it paid off. We’ve been needing a good points night and we got it tonight. I have to thank my car owner Mike Reece, Reece Monument Company, Gantte Appraisals, Sunoco Race Fuels and everybody else with this race team,”   O’Neal would take the lead at the start of the race and hold the point until he slowed with a flat tire on the 19th lap. After O’Neal pitted for a fresh tire, he rejoined the race on the tail. Bloomquist then inherited the lead, and led until lap 33 when Owens powered by Bloomquist for lead.   Bloomquist like Owens needed a good points night as well and got what he wanted. “We started off slow last year and came back to finish third in the points. It was treacherous tonight, but we have a well-built car and it held up in these rough conditions. We were airborne several times out there and then we found a line that was somewhat smoother to run but I couldn’t hold Jimmy off. Congratulations to Jimmy on his win in one of our cars and Dennis (Erb) had a good finish as well.”   Francis, who like his counterparts came into the race looking to move up in the points, was pleased with his third place finish. “The crew worked hard on the car and we were fast all night. I was able to keep it up front most of the race and thought we might get past Scott (Bloomquist), but just couldn’t get by him. It was just a night of survival but we will take a third place finish and go from there, said Steve Francis, driver of the Clint Bowyer Racing Team entry.   Completing the top ten were Dennis Erb Jr.; Chris Wall, John Blankenship, B.J. Robinson and Bobby Pierce.   In preliminary action, Bobby Pierce set the overall Time (Group B) amongst the 39 entrants, with a lap of 14.199 seconds. Don O’Neal set the fastest time in Group A with a time of 14.257 seconds. Don O’Neal, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., and Jimmy Owens won their respective Heat Races. Tyler Erb and Chris Wall won their respective B-Mains.    The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action in two weeks with a trek through the Appalachian Mountains for three events. The series will be at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA on Friday, April 19th. On Saturday, April 20th, the series will venture to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. Rounding out the trip in the “Mountaineer State”, the series will make its return to West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV on Sunday, April 21st. 2013results_3-23.jpg   BROWNSTOWN, IN (March 23, 2013) – Dennis Erb, Jr. came from the eighth starting spot to win the 16th Annual Indiana Icebreaker sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Saturday Night at Brownstown Speedway. Erb, took the lead on lap six from Josh McGuire and went unchallenged the rest of the way for the $10,000 victory.   Erb’s fifth career LOLMDS win tonight was also his first series win outside of East Bay Raceway Park in Florida. Don O’Neal finished second, followed by Greg Johnson, Jared Landers, and Bobby Pierce.   “The car was amazing all night; we didn’t change much at all! This was probably the best car I have had here at Brownstown. In the feature, the track was racy from top to bottom. We started on the outside of the fourth row and the top was great, so that’s where I stayed and it didn’t take us long to get to the front,” said Erb, who earned his fourth career win at the South-Central Indiana track.   “The car was good all week at East Bay last month, if not for a few blown tires, we would have won the points, but we had a good night tonight and we want to stay with the series all year, if we can find some more funding then that’s what we will do,” said the 40-year-old Erb.   Once Erb was in front there was no catching him. The only caution of the race came out with 20 laps complete, but on the restart, Erb pulled away from his nearest competitors. “I have to thank Bloomquist Race Cars, Kuntz and Company, J&L Scrap Metals and McBride Leasing, and of course my Crew Chief, Heather Lyne.”   Completing the top ten were Darrell Lanigan; Mike Marlar; John Blankenship; Jimmy Owens; and Josh Richards.   In preliminary action, Bobby Pierce set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 37 entrants, with a lap of 14.798 seconds. Jared Landers set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 15.046 seconds. Bobby Pierce, Steve Francis, Josh McGuire, and Brandon Sheppard won their respective Heat Races. Jimmy Owens and Mike Marlar won their respective B-Mains.    The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to action on Friday, April 6th, with the Southern 50 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. The following night, Saturday, April 7th, the series makes its way to Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, TX for the annual High Banks Havoc. Both events will pay $10,000-to-win, and will include RedBuck Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-Lap main events.
